SEPTEMBER WINES-AT-HOME
This monthly program recommends six wines for your everyday enjoyment that are offered at an amazing discount. The six will have variety in style with the commonality of good taste and good value.
Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Marlborough, New Zealand
The nose displays intense passion fruit and stone fruit aromas, with a touch of dry grass and background mineral notes that continue into the refreshing palate. It is full and rounded with a succulent mouth-feel and viscosity, balanced with crisp acidity. Definitive Marlborough.
Foris Pinot Gris 2997, Rogue Valley, Oregon
Bright aromas of grapefruit and stone fruits. Medium bodied with a soft acidity, but still racy, even spicy. Minerals, lime and a tight core of tangerines on the palate. More citrus throughout the mouthwatering finish. Crisp and refreshing, this is the best match for spicy Thai and Indian food.
Ventus Cabernet-Malbec 2007, Patagonia, Argentina
From reclaimed Neuquen desert land in far southern Argentina, this unique wine region offers delicious wines at excellent prices. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon lends its rich, berry personality to the intense, often rustic Malbec grape of Cahors in southern France. A very popular style.
Palacio “Glorioso” Crianza 2004, Rioja, Spain
100% Tempranillo aged 6 months in American oak. The nose is a mix of peppery aromas and plum scents, with a smooth finishing palate. It represents good value, a fine example of modern forward fruited Spanish red.
Domaine Cabirau "Serge and Tony" Grenache 2007, Cotes Catalan
A small property in Maury just north of Spain. “An exuberant nose of ripe black raspberry is mingled with mint and smoked meat. It offers sheer, mouth-filling generosity of fruit, and a lip-smacking finish.” Wine Advocate 88 pts. & listed as “One of the World’s Greatest Wine Values.”
Castello Monacci Primitivo Salento 2007, Puglia, Italy
Grown in the heel of the boot, between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, Primitivo yields this intensely flavored red, well structured, yet softened by six months oak aging. Recent research using DNA profiling has proved that both Primitivo and Zinfandel are clones of the Croatian variety Crljenak.
