Domaine de Pegau, long owned by the Feraud family is now run
by the charming, talented Laurence, who was exceptionally well-schooled by her
father, Paul, to fashion some of the longest-lived, most profound wines of the
appellation. This nearly 50-acre estate of vines aged 35 to 105 years old is
worked without chemical herbicides or pesticides. Cuvée Reservée, 80% Grenache,
14% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre and 2% other varietals, spends about 18 months in
barrel, is fermented with all natural yeasts and is bottled without
filtration.
REVIEWS for the 2009:
Robert Parker: “An enormous success, this cuvee has
come on like gang busters since I tasted it last year, and may eclipse the
stunning 2007. Given its tannin profile, the 2009 will require 5-6 years of
cellaring and should keep for 30-35 years.” 95-97 points
Stephen Tanzer:
“Wild, highly aromatic bouquet of dark berry
liqueur, cherry, smoked meat and garrigue. Deeply pitched black raspberry
and tart cherry flavors finish with a smoky floral quality. Fans of
old-school Chateauneuf are going to love this wine.” 93 points
